So 2012 has finally come to an end; it seems just like yesterday when it began and we were anticipating the great movies we would see this year. But all good things must come to an end; and what an end right?
2012 gave us money-makers and blockbusters. First in line, we saw THE AVENGERS and something must have knocked us silly because the movie broke box office records all over the place with Iron Man and the crew dragging hopeless movie goers to the cinemas every weekend.
Next in line to blow our minds was Chris Nolan’s masterpiece and the last his Batman trilogy THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Personally we here at CINEMANIACS waited patiently for this one and weren’t disappointed one bit. Of course it was Jennifer Lawrence’s year as she topped the charts with her excellent performance in THE HUNGER GAMES.
Don’t get me wrong though, 2012 wasn’t all perfect for movies with unecessary remakes (TOTAL RECALL, DREDD), painful sequels (RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4) and some plain dumb movies like GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE.
Anyways, it’s all good, because as mad as we are with Hollywood about the inadequate originality and the refusal to allow some movies series die a natural death, the year still gave us a lot of happy and ‘bad ass’ moments.
For the action lovers, we had THE EXPENDABLES 2, THE RAID: REDEMPTION, SKYFALL and DJANGO UNCHAINED. Also we got good old fashioned comedies like 21 JUMP STREET and THE WATCH.
2012 was a good enough year for movies and we’re already anticipating a lot for 2013. One thing is for sure though, in 2013 we will still see the good, the bad and the ugly, because that’s what its all about. See you in 2013.
